All those preparations for Christmas, presents, decorations, shopping and cooking and soon it will be 2010! I do hope everyone had a happy Christmas, meeting up with family and friends and enjoying T.V.!We all had time to reflect why Christmas is such a special Christian festival, it is wonderful to sing carols and hear the traditional reading - we were lucky that so many braved the weather on the 20th December and we had three small children in the congregation - Millie, Charles and Grace, who were extremely good. But we did miss our descant singers! Well done Rachel and Hannah for your solos.
Thank you to everyone who came to our concert with the Cantabile Choir and being so generous with the raffle - we raised £425, it was a super evening - (read the details on the Bishop Burton Web Site).
Circuit Celebration at Walkington on 6th December was led by our District Chairman, the Rev'd Stephen Burgess, the chapel was packed. The service was to celebrate the new ‘access for all' and other alterations. Details of correspondence and costs from when the chapel was built in the 1880's proved amusing, the whole building after much debate was £415!! And the new works £55,000+ (Four silver trowels at £1 each were presented to the four people who laid foundation stones, two donated £20 and two £5 each).
Once again Carols at the Altisidora was well supported, our Rev Liz Allison was M.C. with Richard Powell on the organ. Oliver and Naomi with Alice's help collected £100.90 which has been divided between the two local children's hospices, one in Grimsby and the other at Boston spa. Our special thanks to Di for inviting us once again and for the mince pies and coffee.
The weekly Coffee Mornings recommence on Wednesday 6th January. Mary Burr's 90th Birthday was celebrated with a pink iced cake, and the following Wednesday she bought some of her iced fruit cake to the Christmas Coffee Morning. We also send our love to Sheila Waddingham who celebrated her 89th Birthday on Christmas Day. This year Janet packed up four shoe boxes for Real Aid which contained lovely little knitted jumpers etc. and small gifts, well done everyone.
A warm invitation to our annual Covenant Service on Sunday 10th January, when we renew out promises to serve God and fellowmen and the community.
We wish everyone Peace, Joy and every Blessing for 2010.
