Bertha Thompson - Champion Golfer

I now play golf - oh, I know I'm not supposed to talk about my exploits on the course but this is something else. I was wandering down the corridor at the clubhouse at AntiMill on the Westwood when I noticed an old photograph of a lady golfer. It was a striking pose of Bertha Thompson of Beverley who won the British Ladies Open Championship in 1905 when it was held at Cromer. I wonder who she was, I thought and that set me off on a mini-research project to investigate her background and achievements. If you know anything about her or her family, do get in touch. She was a semi-distant cousin of Julia Hall Watt/Eyre so there is some sort of connection to the village of Bishop Burton.
